Volaris will temporarily suspend all flights to and from Tulum International Airport starting Jan. 7, 2027. Aeroméxico's temporary suspension started after its last day of Tulum service on Sept. 30.
Who is affected
Volaris customers with existing bookings can fly as normal until Jan. 7. Travelers whose trips are hit by the cut will be offered rebooking, electronic vouchers or refunds, the airline said. It named higher costs as the reason, including the non-resident fee, which will rise 35% next year, plus airport fees, fuel and air navigation charges. Aeroméxico cited market conditions.
Aeroméxico is moving affected passengers to Cancún on flights from Mexico City or Felipe Ángeles International Airport, matching their original route. It's also offering a voucher for 100% of the ticket price, valid for one year on any Aeroméxico route or a refund to the original form of payment.
Flights that still serve Tulum
Delta, United and American keep operating normally and from Oct. 24 through March, Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat will resume flights, Grupo Mundo Maya, the airport's operator, said Oct. 6. On domestic routes, Viva Aerobus and Mexicana keep their schedules, per Vanguardia. Travelers planning winter stays can find more in our Mexico guide.
Tulum handled 471,500 passengers in the first half of the year, down 33.2% from 705,400 in the same period of 2025, according to Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency.
