Cambodia / Vietnam's Chrey Thom upgrade is live; nomad e-visas unclear

The Chrey Thom-Khanh Binh crossing between Cambodia and Vietnam began operating as an international land border gate Oct. 3. The upgrade supports cross-border travel, but it doesn't establish whether travelers can enter with an e-visa at this checkpoint.
An existing crossing gains international status
The crossing links Cambodia's Kandal province with Vietnam's An Giang province, about 75 kilometers from Phnom Penh. Officials inaugurated the international gate and witnessed cargo vehicles clearing the border, An Giang's Economic Zone Management Board reported.
This isn't a newly built border crossing. Khanh Binh became a main border gate in 2005 and Vietnam approved its upgrade to international status Aug. 7, 2026. The Oct. 3 ceremony marked its operation under that new classification.
A route update for nomads traveling overland
The relevance is narrow for digital nomads, remote workers and long-stay travelers moving between Phnom Penh and Vietnam's Mekong Delta: this is a border-route development, not a documented change to work or residence permissions.
International tourists are among the travelers served by the provinces' crossings, VietNamNet reported. For travelers using other border gates or remaining in either country, this launch doesn't itself change their route.
E-visa acceptance remains unconfirmed
Vietnam permits e-visa entry and exit through government-designated checkpoints. The upgrade announcement doesn't establish e-visa acceptance at Khanh Binh or Cambodia's Chrey Thom gate.
E-visa holders should confirm acceptance at both checkpoints with the relevant immigration authorities before arranging travel through this crossing. International border status alone isn't confirmation of e-visa access.
