Inside the Mauritius Electronic Travel Authorization Plans

Mauritius is preparing to transition its entry process to a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system. While the government initially signaled a move toward this digital framework in late 2025, the system has not yet gone live. It is designed to modernize border security and eventually replace or significantly enhance the existing All-in-One Digital Travel Form.

Currently, the island nation continues to rely on its standard visa-exempt entries and the mandatory digital arrival form. Travelers can expect the ETA to function as a pre-arrival screening tool that provides a QR code or email approval before boarding.

Who is affected by the shift

The upcoming ETA will primarily impact visa-exempt tourists and short-term business travelers. If you are a digital nomad currently residing in the country on a Premium Travel Visa, your residency status remains unchanged. However, any new remote workers entering on standard tourist terms will eventually need to clear the ETA process before arrival.

The system will likely apply to most international visitors, excluding Mauritian citizens and specific diplomatic categories. For those planning a move, the current requirements for the Premium Visa, including proof of $1,500 monthly income, stay in effect alongside these border updates.

What remote workers should do

Since there is no official ETA platform or confirmed launch date, travelers must remain cautious. Avoid any third-party websites claiming to issue Mauritian ETAs for a fee. For now, you should continue to follow these steps:

  • Complete the official All-in-One Digital Travel Form before your flight.
  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your stay.
  • Maintain digital copies of your onward travel tickets and accommodation bookings.
  • Monitor nomad news for the official activation of the ETA portal.

The government has not yet confirmed the final application fee, though processing is expected to be near-instantaneous once the site goes live.
